Spandex Elastic Yarn is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity — capable of stretching 300-500% of its original length and recovering to near-original dimensions. In hygiene products, spandex is the primary elastic component in leg cuffs, waistbands, and side panels, providing the snug, leak-proof fit essential for product performance.

Spandex in Diaper Manufacturing

Each diaper typically contains 4-12 individual spandex elastic yarn threads running through the leg cuff and waistband areas. These threads are stretched during production and bonded to the nonwoven layers with hot melt elastic adhesive. When the stretch tension is released, the spandex gathers the nonwoven, creating the elasticized ruffles that seal against the wearer’s skin to prevent leakage. Various denier options (420D, 560D, 620D, 840D, 1120D) are available to achieve different levels of elasticity for different product zones.
