The Top Sheet & ADL (Acquisition Distribution Layer) are the first two layers that liquid encounters in a disposable hygiene product. The top sheet provides the skin-contact surface — soft, fast-penetrating, and low-rewet — while the ADL underneath distributes liquid across the absorbent core for maximum SAP utilization.

Top Sheet and ADL Functions

A high-quality top sheet ADL nonwoven combination is critical to product performance. The top sheet must allow rapid liquid pass-through while feeling dry to the touch. The ADL acts as a temporary reservoir and distribution layer, spreading liquid horizontally to prevent localized saturation and gel blocking in the SAP core. Together, they determine the product’s dryness, comfort, and leakage protection.
